I’m very interested to hear how it goes! Can you keep us updated?

We are doing some PO’s telehealth, consult for 3rd molars and other straight forward consultations are being done by telehealth. They need to have an x-ray either from their dentist or we take one in advance in our office. implants, exposures, more complicated cases we do the consult in the office.

We use Doxy.me for our telehealth appointments. We like it.

May I ask where you are getting the supplies for the rapid covid testing? After reading your post i’m very interested in doing this in my office. Unfortunately, i have no information about billing the covid test!

We have been disappointed with WinOMS for a while now. Frankly, the software is awful. Years ago it used to be the best you could get. The problem is, they never tried very hard to make any upgrades to the system because they were already better than the others! Now, years later, we have other OMS software options that are many steps ahead of Carestream. They have an entire forum where you can submit suggestions for things that don’t work well or upgrades you’d like to see. They never integrate any of them into their software upgrades. Every time there’s an upgrade it’s not an improvement, it’s to fix something that didn’t work in the last upgrade! It’s extremely frustrating.

I’d love to switch, I’ve heard DSN is really good but their software requirements are insane.
I’d like to hear if anyone has switched and if they feel it was worth it!

We verify insurance after they schedule their first appointment. We have a form we fill out with the full breakdown. after the consult we work up an estimate and email it to the patient. We re-verify the benefits 3 days prior (just an online lookup or fax back) to make sure policy is still active and check remaining benefits. We update the estimate if necessary at that time. I find this way to work well as we have a good amount of time to call the insurance company prior the patients first appointment with us. That way we’re not scrambling to get this done at the last minute. One member of my front desk team takes a day of the week and they go to a private office in the morning and bang them all out in a few hours. If you keep up daily it doesnsn’t become overwhelming for the person doing the calls. I hope this helps!

Can I ask about your consent forms? Did PBHS set them up for you? Are you sending these to the patient in advance to sign at home? Just curious how you’re using them.

We are playing by the rules, if someone tests negative, they can come to work. I had a stomach bug/food poisoning 2 weeks ago, i got a test just to be sure. it was negative and i came back the next day. It’s very difficult now, we are in MA and a rapid COVID test is hard to come by. We had them readily available up until a few weeks ago! It really makes it difficult having to wait 48/72+ hours for results. I’m worried that sick employees or employees with sick family/employees with childcare issues are going to absolutely kill us come the fall/winter. We had an employee who the week before everything shut down got COVID. She was very sick, in the hospital and wasn’t even cleared to come back to work by her PCP until June. I worry that if a doctor/employee test positive 3 weeks isn’t my problem, 4 months is!! I don’t have a solution for you but i sympathize with you!!

We use Paychex. I’ve been extremely happy with them. Their online portal is great, very user friendly. Their payroll reports are easy to pull. Customer service is reachable by email or phone for any questions. With COVID-19 and the CARES act and making sure everything is done properly they were extremely helpful.

Terri Bradley Consulting offers training on OMS billing. I don’t think she is currently doing any live training sessions, but I believe they’re filmed and available for purchase. I would reach out to her.

Crystal, We launder here. OSHA regulations are that we can’t leave the office in dirty scrubs. The doctors use disposable gowns but our assistants wear the button up warm up jackets that we launder here along with their scrubs and the doctors white coats. We were never happy with any company that laundered our uniforms. Items were never returned, it was always a nightmare so we installed a washer/dryer and do it ourselves.

Our front desk is business casual. We provide fleece jackets, vests, cardigans, blazers and other tops with our logo embroidered on them. They are welcome to wear those anytime they want (which would make more of a uniform rather than business casual). We have somehow morphed from business casual to the girls wearing leggings/black jeans. That is going to be changed at our next meeting. I think it needs to be spelled out very clearly, no 5 pocket style pants, no atheleisure, aka yoga pants, leggings, etc. Animal print are fine, I currently have on black pants which have a dark animal print on them, they are work appropriate. We also don’t allow flip flops. We recently changed out footwear to allow open toed shoes, i did tell the girls, no flip flops AND if they have questionable footwear on i will ask them to change, so bring a change of shoes! I absolutely will not allow our front desk to wear scrubs, to me, it’s not appropriate.
