Call for Presentation Proposals

added on: January 20, 2020

SOMSA’s Call for Presentations will open 01/22/2020 and close at midnight Central Time on 02/12/2020.

The Society of OMS Administrators is the only organization in the nation with OMS administrators curating educational content for OMS administrators. We want to take it a step further and let our members shine. We hear you in the forums and at the conference; we know what you know! Share what you know, your expertise, with a wider audience in a member-led break-out session at the 2020 Annual Conference.

The Conference Committee is requesting proposals from SOMSA members for member-led conference break-out sessions for the 2020 Conference. The sessions will take place during Tuesday Break-Out Session 1 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM and Tuesday Break-Out Session 2 from 3 to 4 PM. The Conference Committee will place selected sessions in break-out slots.

Session Title

Try to craft a title that strikes a balance between being informative and catchy.
The title will be shortened in some formats, so do think about length. As needed, we may shorten the title, often including the briefer part before the colon (if your title has one), so consider that as well.

Session Description

The session description is your chance to tell potential attendees about your course in plain English. Convince them to attend!

Learning Objectives

Four (4) learning objectives are required by AGD PACE. In case you are unfamiliar with PACE
Guidelines, here is some helpful information, copied from the Academy of General Dentistry, Program Approval for Continuing Education guidelines revised August 2017.

A course objective is a simple statement of what you expect participants to know when they complete your course. Defining course objectives well is extremely important, because participants generally decide whether to attend a course based on the stated objectives.

Course objectives can be written to show different levels of learning and become increasingly complex as one moves up. The following represent the different levels of learning:

  1. KNOWLEDGE is knowing specific facts, principles, etc.
  2. COMPREHENSION is the ability to explain a point.
  3. APPLICATION is using previously known facts to solve a problem.
  4. ANALYSIS is the ability to break a product apart into its requisite elements or logical components.
  5. SYNTHESIS is the ability to create something.
  6. EVALUATION is the ability to judge quality.

Accurate educational objectives succinctly describe the education that will result from attending the course. Specific educational objectives must describe the expected outcome(s) of the learning experience. They may include, but are not limited to, the following categories:

  1. Changes in the attitude and approach of the learner to the solution of [oral surgery] problems;
  2. Corrections of outdated knowledge;
  3. Provision of new knowledge in specific areas;
  4. Introduction to and/or mastery of specific skills and techniques;
  5. Alterations in the habits of the learner.

Related PACE Standard:

V. Objectives:
1. Specific written educational objectives identifying the expected learner outcomes must be developed for each activity and published in advance for the intended audience.

PACE Conflict of Interest and Affidavit of Image Authenticity (PACE requirements)

All Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) approved continuing education (CE) providers are expected to document that they asked all instructors to declare any potential conflicts of interest they have so that they may be disclosed to potential attendees prior to course attendance. Having an interest in or an affiliation with a corporate organization does not prevent one from presenting educational information, but the relationship must be made known to the audience. Failure to disclose or a false disclosure shall result in an instructor’s removal from the program.

Download PACE Form

Download the form above and complete it as you prepare your proposal. You will upload this form when you submit your presentation.

Speaker Bio

Finally, we’ll ask for the presenter’s bio, focusing on his or her expertise on the topic area. Aim for 250-350 words.

Head Shot

We will publish your head shot alongside your session information on the Sessions & Speakers page as well as in the conference program. Please send a print-quality image, at least 300 dpi. If your session is selected and the image is not high enough quality, we will notify you.
